And now for a rare, but always special, guest post. In my absence, London's DJ Fireboy has stepped into the breech and is sharing with us a gem of a tune that he's dug up from his own collection -- please make him feel very welcome. He will also be spinning 45s with me at The Haggerston on Friday October 8th, do come along.
T.D. Valentine - Evil Woman
Here is a nice little psych tinged, strings and drums pop song recorded by T.D. Valentine in 1969. From what I can gather, T.D. Valentine was a pseudonym used by Tommy Mottola when he cut two singles for the Epic label back in the late sixties -- this one, a cover version of Evil Woman, and the Northern soul classic, Love Trap. Out of the two, I much prefer this record. It's one of those studio arrangements that should probably sound terrible but, somehow, it works! Well, I think so anyway. In later life, Tommy went on to become President of CBS Records, manager of Hall & Oates and husband of everybody's favourite warbling pop diva, Mariah Carey. You can find a good biography of him
here.
