Etta James - Something's Got A Hold On Me
Released on Chess's jazz leaning subsidiary label Argo in 1961, Etta James' Something's Got A Hold On Me is a return to the gospel sounds that she, like so many others, grew up singing. The song's introduction, with James singing, almost speaking, "oh, oh, sometimes I get a good feeling, yeah I get a feeling that I never never had before" was sampled by EDM DJ Avicii for a track called Levels. Levels was then sampled to make Flo Rida's ubiquitous party hit of last year, Good Feeling. Incidentally, Flo Rida is playing at a festival I'm going to tomorrow. I might even try and see him, since he doesn't seem to clash with Nicky Minaj or Jay-Z.
