Sandy Nelson - Caravan
Here's Sandy Nelson with an impressive version of the Juan Tizol standard, Caravan. Nelson learned the drums as he grew up in Santa Monica, California. By the late 1950s he was busy working as a session musician. Encouraged by the likes of Earl Palmer, Cozy Cole and bongo player Preston Epps, he released his first drum solo single, Teen Beat, on Imperial in 1959. It sold in the millions and cemented Nelson's reputation and solo career. Today's offering came out five years later, also on Imperial.
